fuckin truth
Oh dear god. Mine even has a hidden thing under the faucet for the bath you have to pull down. Then one twisty nob for water pressure, and a fucking lever to determine temperature. NO one would know how to activate the shower part if I didn’t tell them.
And if you don’t believe me, you’ve never been a married woman who kept her family name. I have had students hold that up as proof of my “sexism.”
My own brother told me that he could never marry a woman who kept her name because “everyone would know who ruled that relationship.” Perfect equality – my husband keeps his name and I keep mine – is held as a statement of superiority on my part.

- Lucy, When Worlds Collide: Fandom and Male Privilege. (via seaofbadstories) I might have reblogged this already but it’s so good I don’t care. (via stfufauxminists) Kyriarchy in action. (via transstingray) Also the study where they had women and men talking in a discussion and when women spoke around 30% of the time, men perceived them as dominating the discussion. They didn’t consider it “equal” until something like 5-10% of women talking. (via dumbthingswhitepplsay) Now apply that to racism! Try and see how people react if a conversation is exactly 50% white people 50% POC. I imagine the reaction will be quite similar (via therapsida) |

How… do you even eat anything more after an apple? o.o At least when its breakfast for me, once I eat ONE, I’m done. I’m full until lunchtime…. maybe the apples I eat are larger… or cuz I’m still not used to them? Idk. Sometimes i can’t even finish one.
If you didn’t know this about me, sexism is one of my largest pet peeves. In fact, any form of discrimination is a LARGE problem with me. Saying anyone can’t do anything based on ANYTHING other than their actual ability to do the job just ticks me off. So when I was in the line just now at Ralphs, and learned that I’d need to cut my hair for the job, naturally I didn’t take it well.
Me: Do girls also need to cut their hair to that length?
Her: No… but its a health requirement or something.
Me: I don’t see any girls in hairnets, is that required?
Her: No, of course not. But its not an option for men, they’d have to cut their hair. Ralphs looks for lean cut people.
At this point, I shut up. This person didn’t make the policies, and whether she agreed with them or not was no excuse to vent my anger on her. As I know from my friends who work behind the counter, they get enough of that about things both more and less ridiculous than what I was angry about.
Until then, I had been considering cutting my hair. Peer pressure everywhere told me I should, and my dad and our roommate had already stated it would be needed to be taken seriously for a job. That at the very least, it would help. The moment I heard that a few minutes ago in that store though, every inch of me decided at once.
I will not cut my hair. Any job that hires me based on anything other than my ability to work, I will not take. I want a job, but I will not go against my principles and work in a sexist or discriminating environment.
Who else fails to see how long hair hinders a males ability to work? People have different fashion sense, and some, like me, do not fit into the male stereotype. I feel even worse for possible crossdressers or transgenders who want to work. To force a person to look a certain way depending on his gender is cruelty, and I cannot see it any other way.
What does everyone else think about this?
